Unboxing The Nest Thermostat Version 3
The Nest will come in a very easy to open box with complete hassle free packaging that if I had to explain in one word it would be awesomeness!

Here’s a picture of the backside which illustrates and speaks about the different features and how easy it is to utilize the thermostat over your existing thermostat which you may have today.

Once you pry open the box, you’ll find the Thermostat centered in the middle and protected with cardboard inserts as well as a plastic cover over the display of thermostat. It all appears to be recyclable material which is green and a good thing for our Earth!

The thickness of the 3rd generation thermostat is slightly smaller than the 2nd generation but the display area is larger, so its a win-win. The outer “wheel” of the thermostat can spin right or left to navigate the menu of the thermostat among other things. It has a beautiful steel polished finish which looks really good, even though I did notice that finger prints can be seen on it after touching it. Maybe the 4th generation Nest thermostat will have the finger resistant silver finish!

Taking the thermostat out and its cardboard insert, will reveal the other items in the box which are the included such as; screwdriver, mounting screws, and the back plate which is where the wires plug in. The included screwdriver is really nice and ergonomic and it also features a reversible Philips and flat head.

The back mounting plate is what you will fasten to the wall and what the thermostat will snap on once you have the wires in place. There is a built-in level at the top which helps you keep it level when mounting it to the wall. The wire connectors are the button style which makes it VERY easy to get this new thermostat wired up and ready to go! We’ll see more about that later during the installation portion of this review but I love what I see thus far!

There is also a cover-up plate included which can be used. This is handy if you have an existing thermostat that is larger than the Nest, this cover-up plate will help cover up a non-painted area or an area on the wall with screw holes. This makes it quick and easy, if you do not feel like painting or touching up the wall after removing the old thermostat.

Lastly, there are several booklets and pamphlets included which not only talks about the installation of the Nest but also other Nest products.

Read on to the next page and we’ll show you how the Nest Learning Thermostat is installed in a home.
