Sony PlayStation 4 To Offer PlayStation 2 Game Emulation

Sony said its working on a major PlayStation 4 update to its latest generation console that allow users to play PS2 games on the new platform using emulation technology.

“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” Sony spokesman said but did not provide any other details around the subject.

While its still being worked on, no release date of the major upgrade has been announced yet but with Microsoft just recently pushing out an update to its XBox One console allowing users to play XBox 360 games, I’m sure we aren’t too far off from seeing this new update on PlayStation 4.

PlayStation 2 was Sony’s most successful console to date and some of the games were playable on PlayStation 3 but not all of them, similar to what Microsoft has done with XBox 360 games and the XBox One.

If Sony can achieve complete emulation on PlayStation 4 for the PlayStation 2 games, I’m sure gamers will be happy around the world and would definitely give Sony yet another leg up on Microsoft.
