Microsoft for the first time is allowing developers to apply to purchase their HoloLens Development Kit product, priced at $3,000 USD.
HoloLens creates an immersive augment reality experience which allows for you to interact with virtual objects or things in real life directly in front of you.
One of the biggest advantages that HoloLens has over its competitors is that it actually runs on Windows 10. With the power of having the operating systems behind it, it opens the doors for millions of possibilities not just around gaming but industry products and solutions from healthcare to engineering and design.
The HoloLens Developer application process only takes a few minutes to complete but there are some prerequisites that must be met;
- You are a developer in the United States (including Puerto Rico) or Canada where the Development Edition will first be available.
- You are a Windows Insider. By participating in the Windows Insider program, you agree to provide feedback and work with Microsoft to define the future of holographic computing.
- Please note that the Development Edition hardware and experiences are in English only.
If you meet these requirements, you are asked to fill out an application here. Remember, you must first be selected to participate and then you’ll need to offer up your $3,000 for your kit if accepted. When I went through the application process it stated that starting in January Microsoft will begin inviting accepted applicants to “pre-order” the development edition with the first orders shipping in the Q1 of 2016.
